LINKS TO INTERESTING WEBSITES from Caroline The University of Chicago has an excellent online mammalian classification, which goes down to species level. For example the marsupials (metatheria) are classified at Following these to species level, information about the species, including skulls, pictures, life history, distribution etc. can be found, and a list of relevant scientific papers, some with online links. One of these led me to South American information at Mamiferos de Argentina (Mammals of Argentina) with links to various websites on
marsupials and other South American mammals, some in Spanish. These can be readily translated by installed the Google Toolbar which under the "Page Info" button, automatically translates any website into English. Bravo! A really good link was to a Biosphere Reserve website. Another good link from this page on Argentinian mammals led me to the website "The Marsupials of of Argentina: An Annotated Checklist of their Distribution and Conservation" which turned out to be a site set up under a project supported by the IUCN New World Specialist Marsupials Group. The IUCN Specialist Group sites are also well worth a visit, by the way. The 23 marsuipals are linked within the document to individual information, including some photos,
and to external websites in Spanish which give distribution maps, status and other information. A really excellent way to familiarise yourself with some South American marsupials! from CC
