Hi everybody -
The young male Elephant Seal which hauled out at Point Henry (Geelong, Vic)
last year is back in Port Phillip Bay, albeit only just. He is now relaxing
on the bay beach (Springs Beach) at Point Lonsdale, just inside the Rip,
approximately opposite the eastern end of Albert Street. Apparently he
appeared sometime late yesterday and went for a stroll (perhaps not the best
word to use) up the bank to the edge of the main street. How long he might
stay is anybody's guess. There is someone keeping an eye on him and warning
visitors not to approach too closely. However, you can get to within 15m or
so. It doesn't seem to bother him. I received a small info sheet,
presumably put together at his last visit, which says he weighs about a
tonne. Looks to me as if he has put on some weight since.
Cheers,
Hugo
