I agree with the identification. However just a comment or two, what is
meant by "Sadly THEY were deceased ......? does this mean more than one?
Also, the body looks like it has been hit by a vehicle so could have come
from anywhere. I spend many nights working in the forests along the South
Coast and only ever saw 1 Masked Owl, and potentially only heard several
more so they are not a common species. I did pick up a road killed Masked
Owl on the Pacific Highway north of Newcastle years ago which is now in the
Australian National Wildlife Collection at CSIRO on Black Mountain. Still an
interesting record though.

Subject: Masked Owl Kambah (warning deceased images)
Hi all
Can you confirm this Masked Owl please
Dark barring under primary feathers, and distinctly orange face and under
upper wing. 400 grams, large bird, extremely chunky feet and feathering
along tibiotarsus.
I am an experienced bird assessor/carer with ACTWILDLIFE , but have never
seen one of these before (plenty of Barn Owls have passed through my hands)
Sadly they were deceased on arrival when I was called out to rescue this
morning:(
Thought you may be interested, Kim suggested I post pics to the group as
there have not been many sightings in Canberra?
