COG Woodland Survey - Mt. Majura 24th September 2026

The Majura Woodland survey was conducted on Sept 24. Weather was mild to warm, with light winds in the morning (sites 1-7) and moderate winds this afternoon (sites 8 and 9).

Sites 4 and 5, which are usually the most productive, yielded a small flock of Silvereyes, a Mistletoebird, Buff-rumped and Yellow-rumped Thornbills, Grey Fantail, Superb Fairy Wrens  and a Horsefield’s Bronze-cuckoo. Outside of these sites, the only small birds recorded were a single Striated Pardalote and a small flock of Yellow-faced Honeyeaters. Noisy Miners were recorded at most sites, Noisy Friarbirds at three sites. A Brown Goshawk at Site 8 was the only raptor recorded.

Several parrots were observed occupying hollows but the only other nesting behavior was a Pied Currawong carrying nesting material.

A lone Shingleback was observed on the firetrail between sites 8 and 9, near the Mackenzie Street Gate.

In total 27 species were recorded over the 9 sites with an additional 2 species recorded between sites.
