H5 bird flu detected in WA

Thank you for your post Sandra. Very concerning. As we have feared it has only been a matter of time before H5N1 Avian flu was detected on the Australian mainland.

The ABC news site has an article which indicates H5 bird flu has been confirmed in an ailing (now deceased) Brown Skua found near Esperance a few days ago. A Giant Petrel is also being tested. There was also news this week that a majority of the elephant seal pups on Heard Island have died of the disease.
