Apart from the basic info about JWNR now provided, it is the links on the page that lead to an extraordinary trove of statistics about local birds. As I see it, JWNR is the only
hotspot in the region that qualifies for the coveted amber colour, signifying that more than 200 bird species have been recorded there, 238 to be precise. Clicking on a few other hotspots wearing the next colour down in the scale (150-200), I see that FSP
(no access) has 162, ANBG has 168, ANU 163 and Callum Brae 169.
The JWNR ‘iconic birds’ are a revelation. These are listed in descending order, apparently according to the factor by which their frequency exceeds the ‘regional average’. At top
of the list is Black-backed Bittern (14x) followed by three on 13x - Baillon’s Crake, White-cheeked Honeyeater, and Little Egret. Tawny Grassbird is 11x. The least iconic of the iconic birds is the Galah, a mere 1.02x.

Thank you for your post Shorty. And yes, eBird has introduced some good new functionality in recent months. The addition of info about public Hotspots will be very welcome for locals and travellers. It is back to the future to some extent
as eBIrd's predecessor in Australia, Eremaea BIrds, also had functionality to add info about Hotspots. I remember feeling bereft when the Eremaea database was taken into eBird in 2014 and all the wonderful descriptive notes about Hotspots disappeared. I used
to work hard at writing notes for my favourite locations!
