Now, while you are all huddling in front of your air-conditioners, another in the Changing Scene series. This is of the northwest corner of Kellys from Ardea Hide in December 2012, the point being the number of Night-Herons.
There were 17 by my count. In the section shown here, the count is 10. This, I think, was due not only to the absence of obscuring typha but to the abundance of accessible food at that water-level moment. Only problem was that the birds were most plentiful
when it was too dark to take a photo, these two being just after 6am. Incidentally, the hides under discussion date from early 1980s, but the names were attached much later by Harvey Perkins so we could tell one another where the birds were. Very difficult
without names or numbers as you can imagine.
