Hi Rick
I am assuming you are referring to eBird's email alerts for species that subscribers have not seen?  Subscribing to Alerts, and info about Alerts is on this eBird page. Are these the Alerts you are referring to?
If so, you don't need to do anything to contribute to these Alerts. Sightings from eBird lists automatically appear on the Alerts. Subscribers to the Alerts can choose to receive Alerts about species they have never seen in an area, species they haven't seen in the current year, or species they haven't seen in the current month. Rarities Alerts work the same way.
So info about your Heron and you Egret will already have winged their way to Alert subscribers.
Cheers

I'd be grateful for advice about how to contribute to ebird NSW alerts. I have an ebird account and have contributed checklists.

Most recently I saw a Pacific Heron and a Plumed Egret (hanging out together at Rowes Lagoon)

Thanks

Rick
