In his book "Green Mountains", Bernard O'Reilly described a total solar eclipse at their home atop the McPherson Ranges. He said that their chickens went to roost, and kookaburras called as though it was sunset. After the totality, the kookaburras
just flew away without calling as though it was dawn.
