This webinar by Sean Dooley, Mick Roderick & Kristy Peters, happened on Thursday night (25 September). It goes for 1:31. A long and useful discussion about the Regent Honeyeater (and in passing, several other birds) and the major decline in their population and range and so the conservation issues. It also goes into the issues of vocal mimicry, which as it happened, I was the first to identify and publish on this issue. This has now grown into a more concerning issue that the species is losing its song range. Billy Bray talked to COG about that issue at our 13 August meeting. From 37 minutes it becomes mostly a discussion about Mistletoes, which happen to be important to the Regent Honeyeater. I can admit that I did not know most of what information was given about mistletoes. From 1:09 there is a Q & A session until the wind up, (done by people typing in items.) (And I get a mention at 1:29.)

Well worth watching.

The session was recorded to be available to those who missed it. For simplicity (hopefully) here I insert the message from Sean about it, that contains the link (orange box) to click on.

Dear Philip,

I cannot thank you enough for taking the time out of your night to attend our webinar: Saving the Regent Honeyeater.

I'm sure you would agree, it is devastating to see such a sharp decline in this species but the vital work going into saving them is nothing short of inspiring.

As promised, or in case you missed the session, please find the webinar recording here:

Watch the recording now!

Here are some handy links that were discussed in this presentation for you to peruse:

·         As Mick discussed, the number one way to help Regent Honeyeaters is to find them and report your sightings through this page.

·         For some clues as to how to find Regent Honeyeater's, check out another of Mick's video here.

·         If you are a Birdata user, please use our new Regent Honeyeater module when searching for the bird.

·         For more about mistletoe propagation, please find our manual by clicking here. There is a comprehensive bibliography in this manual for great additional resources.

Warm regards,
