“dirty from a dust bath” does not make sense on being so neat and so distinctly scalloped. Unless dust only falls off the tip of every feather. Almost every feather is mostly greyish with a white edging all around. This kind of pattern
occurs in many birds (such as many waders and hawks). The comment from Peter (to me) that there are two of them and this appears to be a regular occurrence.
