I was in Woden today and have been a few times in the last few weeks. Each time I hear a lot of the distinctive calls of Peregrine Falcons coming (I think) from the top
of the Grand Central Towers, the new dark building on Bowes Street, immediately adjacent to the temporary bus interchange (other side of the carpark from the Hellenic club). It is almost continual sound. In spite of looking,
I don’t see the birds flying around. In all the years I worked in Woden (in the 1980s & 1990s), I only saw one of these birds there a couple of times. And once (about 4 years ago) I found the eaten remains of a pigeon on the ground in front of the Abode hotel
that looked a lot like the way a Peregrine Falcon would eat a pigeon. But I am suspicious that someone has installed loudspeakers playing the sound, maybe in an attempt to keep pigeons or other birds, away. Does anyone have any ideas about this?
