Join us for an online session that explores the surprising role of mistletoe in Australian ecosystems. Often seen as a pest, mistletoe actually supports a wide range of wildlife and plays an important part in woodland health, especially for native birds.

The webinar features two expert speakers. Dr David Watson is an ecologist who has spent over 20 years studying mistletoe and its relationships with woodland species. His work has helped shift perceptions of mistletoe from an unwanted parasite to a key player in biodiversity. Kristy Peters from BirdLife Australia’s Woodland Birds Program leads the Regent Honeyeater Recovery Project, working with landholders to restore habitat for this critically endangered species. She is actively involved in reintroducing mistletoe to key habitats in the Hunter Valley, providing important food and shelter for woodland birds.

This free webinar is open to anyone interested in native plants, wildlife, and conservation, no matter where you live. It is especially relevant for landholders and bird enthusiasts.

Date Thursday 7 August 2025
Time 6:30 to 7:30 pm AEST, followed by 30 minutes for questions and discussion
Location Online

An in-person mistletoe propagation workshop will follow in the Yass region (date TBA). To participate in the workshop, you will need to attend the webinar or watch the recording beforehand.
