I can't claim to have studied nesting systematically, but most nesting seems to occur in spring. Some birds seem to happily continue producing clutches as long as the weather stays warm and there's enough rain to sustain food sources. What has
really surprised me recently is seeing Noisy Miners stealing fibre from our hanging plant baskets when the nights have been well below zero. At Jerrabomberra Wetlands, some Swamphens and Moorhens seem to have produced young right up to June. I've seen the
Swans at Tidbinbilla producing eggs in freezing conditions.
Are birds a lot less picky about when they will clutch than I have thought?
