The below might or might not simplify matters. Some people prefer pictures. These are slides from a talk on the subject to a COG meeting last year. The issue of a unified taxonomic
list is different from the issue of a unified English names list. It is possible that English names, particularly the spelling of them (Black-Cockatoo v Black Cockatoo), will become more confused over the next few years. I have not yet checked Avilist to
see whether it reflects the differences listed in the last slide.
