A photo on Saturday from the Jerra wetlands car park, looking across the floodplain (800m wide at this point) to the Molonglo. We see the partly constructed bird blind designed to allow a view from the north over Shoveler Pool. The possibility
of such a structure was mentioned in early management proposals, and now Miriam has been able to obtain funds for a first stage. Screening, plantings and a possible upper deck are yet to come. You can pick out this new landmark from the car park with binoculars.
It is to the left of the more-visible stockyard fencing. The power-pole, which stands in the actual pool, is another marker.
This photo has been slightly enhanced by application of a little ‘Expressionist’ effect. In this shoveler’s-eye view you see the ‘front’ of the blind, with its supporting woodwork, which will be of interest to observant waterbirds. Restraint
has been exercised in adding only one bird to this picture. The incoming duck is the Northern Shoveler that appeared at Kelly Swamp a few years ago. Who knows? - perhaps at some future time one will be recorded from this new facility.

Subject: [Canberrabirds] Familiar scene
It is a while since we had an offering in this series. Hints: the main part of the photo was taken yesterday morning and several people will have cast an eye over the same scene since then.
