On a quick walk along the vehicle boundary track in Campbell Park this afternoon, both small dams were dry.

But at the small “triangular dam”* , in the narrow gully uphill side of the track, there was still a little water with short mud flats on each side, and a minute crake scurried rapidly out of sight as we walked past at c. 2.30pm.

At a distance of c 15 m or so, and in shaded light, it was difficult to get a proper look but my guess would be a Baillon’s Crake.   It was glimpsed very briefly again when we walked back  c. 15 mins later.

I’ve never seen crakes there before. No recent record in eBird of any sighting there.
