Dear Steve

The arid inland of Central Australia might be the last place you’d expect to watch flocks of ducks and shorebirds dabbling around lush lagoons. But major rainfall in 2024 has replenished the network of claypans and waterholes on Newhaven Wildlife Sanctuary and drawn an influx of incredible birdlife over the past 12 months.

In our first Wildlife Matters webinar of 2025, I’ll speak with Dr Tim Henderson, resident ecologist at Newhaven on Ngalia-Warlpiri and Luritja Country, about this boom year for birds.

Tim has documented a flurry of stunning species, including nomadic desert honeyeaters, long-distance waders and a special visit by a Red Goshawk, Australia's rarest bird of prey.

Join me and Dr Tim Henderson to hear about a mega-year for birds in Central Australia.
