Did my first Hackett to Gungahlin ride to work for the year and was very
pleased to see an adult spotless crake out in the open in the same place
as last year-just west of Flemington road in Gungaderra Creek. It was
also making a "peep" type call.

I was even more excited to see a second individual-fleetingly, on the
other side of the creek-maybe a breeding attempt?- although I wouldn't
have thought the creek would be very conducive to successful ground
nesting as its level varies a lot with rain.

The other lovely bird today was a great egret flying over the headwaters
of Sullivan's Creek.

Open everyone's new year is shaping up well.

cheers,

Peter
