Greetings, this link to a webinar recording was forwarded by someone who attended the webinar.  Im circulating, as this may be of interest to some members.  Note, apparently the imagery is quite disturbing.

Also, attached is an information sheet (briefing note) about bird flu impacts on birds/wildlife which may be of interest.

Cheers

Jenny

Conservation Officer, Canberra Birds

Thank you to the 1,500 people who attended our webinar this week about the concerning new strain of bird flu - highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 - and the risks to Australian wildlife.

The webinar recording is now online and you can view it on our Youtube channel.

In the recording you will hear:

  • Dr Michelle Wille from the University of Melbourne explain what H5N1 avian influenza is and how it is different to other strains of avian influenza, the impacts of H5N1 on wildlife globally, how H5N1 is spreading, and the potential major impacts for Australian wildlife,

  • Dr Fiona Fraser from the Australian Government provide an overview of how the nation is preparing and the response plans for native wildlife beyond surveillance, and

  • Dr Simone Vitali from Wildlife Health Australia show us what everyone should be looking out for and how to respond.

The webinar ‘Preparing for bird flu impacts on Australian wildlife’  was jointly organised by the Australian Land Conservation Alliance, Australian Marine Conservation Society, the Biodiversity Council, Birdlife Australia, the Invasive Species Council and WIRES.
