That sounds interesting David. The time of day, the single hoo plus the habitat of tall melaleucas doesn't quite sound like Powerful Owl. Several pigeons and doves are a possibility, as you suggest. Use your Morecamble app
and try White-headed Pigeon and Brown Cuckoo-dove. Both these species are reasonably see-able and hear-able along the coast. Emerald Dove also makes a single note call, but the call is quieter than the other two (or a Powerful Owl) but try it anyway on the
app.
If it is a Powerful Owl you might be able to spot it in the tree.
Other folk will likely have ideas too.
