This morning’s dog walk was interrupted by the sight of a very recently emerged N Miner fledgling, temporarily trapped at the bottom of a steep driveway.  I was able to get a snap of it being given the news that in spite of being fed beetles, moths, and lerps it was really a honeyeater, and should get used to it. The dogs had to put up with not only the deferment of walkies while I got a camera but being swooped by a number of adult N Miners. This reminded me of the annual talk on Magpie swooping yesterday on ABC radio by Darryl Jones, in which he declares Canberra to be the Magpie swooping capital of the world. He was asked which other bird species swooped people. He might have mentioned the N Miner, although a rather gentle fluttery swooper which tends to concentrate on dogs. My nomination of another chap to watch out for would have gone to the Brown Goshawk, but a lot fewer of those about than the A Magpie.
