King Parrots

Probably just a matter of where food is at the time Jenny.  KPs usually enter the more food-rich Canberra suburbs in the non-breeding season.  I had a scout around this morning and found this group (20 in photo) at corner of Carstensz and Jansz.  They feed on acorns of Pin Oaks in Carnegie Cr, but a larger acorn in this example. They also feed on pittosporum berries among other things.  English Garden at Yarralumla is another favourite spot.

We used to get a lot of king parrots and eastern rosellas when we moved to Palmerston (next to Crace) in 1992.  Now we mostly get eastern rosellas and crimson rosellas - very unusual to see king parrots these days ...
