On Monday I had a stroll through the Bot Gardens, keeping an eye out for winter birds, of which there were few, perhaps due to the cold.  In a spot some of you will know I came across a lichen-encrusted seat with a small commemorative plaque. The person was described as a fine scientist and lover of Australian birds. I did not know the person, but the inscription and the setting prompted me to offer the below, partly from the scene, partly from the imaginary world it pointed to.
