The winter woodland bird survey at Gooroo North was held on a cold and breezy morning with plenty of water underfoot. A highlight of the survey was the honeyeaters, not normally a feature of any season at this woodland.
Fuscous Honeyeaters were recorded at 4 sites and White-naped at 3 sites. It seems to be an overwintering year for these two species in the region.
Brown-headed and White-eared Honeyeaters were also recorded. It was generally quiet otherwise with only one small mixed feeding flock recorded, containing thornbills, pardalotes,
Scarlet Robin, Speckled Warbler and Golden Whistler. A lone Australian Shelduck flying overhead was an unusual addition to the species list.
