And the ACTmapi place names data includes ‘Dairy Flat’ as a ‘local name’ and a ‘locality’, but not a gazetted place name: https://actmapi.act.gov.au/

Denise  -    I’m afraid this one of those names.  It doesn’t matter what the official name was, if people want to call it something else.  I have a street directory from a visit to Canberra in 1967 where the road, which I must have driven along, is clearly shown but not labelled for some reason.  A Dept of Housing & Construction map produced after the 1976 floods clearly shows ‘Dairy Road’.  To get an idea of usage from the 1970s I had a look through news reports in the NLAs TROVE.  Both names are used, perhaps ‘Dairy Flat Road’ more often but where there’s a more official context (eg court cases) it’s usually ‘Dairy Road’.  The official designation will be only one consideration (see Kokoda Trail/Track).

I think the brochure is excellent.  A lot of information in a small space.

I would like to know why it is no longer Dairy Flat? But Dairy Road ? I was raised on that part of the Mologolo. Who has the audacity to change the name ?

The National Trust (ACT) earlier this month released four new self-guided tour brochures covering points of interest in the ACT. One is titled ‘Dairy Flat’ and is based around Dairy Road. Naturally it has a section on Kellys Swamp, but has fascinating historical and geological/geomorphological information on the whole precinct. See https://www.nationaltrust.org.au/heritage-tour-brochures/

Best wishes – David
