Good evening
We have had a few Little Red Flying foxes come into care recently ( ACT
Wildlife ) this is quite unusual although they come in during our summer months
they rarely come into care. We have had some come in in such a poor condition
hit by cars and in peoples front yards unable to lift off they are underweight
and very compromised . They are usually a very self sufficient flying fox .
As Canberrans with eyes on the skies and tall trees can I ask people to let
us/me know if they come across a colony please.
They have been known to roost at the dog park on lake Ginninderra but seems
they are not there .
There is a starvation event in progress very few eucalypts flowering and those
that have along the east coast have had nectar diluted by excessive rain the
females are abandoning pups as they are unable to produce enough milk to
sustain them , it’s a pretty dire situation at the moment. Well has been for a
few years now.
Thanks for your indulgence
