I have become the proud parent
😊 of a clutch of three Myna chicks which fledged last weekend.
I have been watching the behaviours of the parents and chicks.
This morning I noticed one of the chicks loafing alone. It appeared to have what looked like a growth on the side of its head over the eye. But as I continued to watch, I
saw the “growth” retract and then again cover the eye in a repeated action. It was apparently a form of eye-lid. It seemed to be the greyish skin patch behind and below the eye (which later forms the characteristic yellow skin of the adult) and moves from
a position behind and below the eye, moving upwards to form an eye cover.
I could not find a reference to the action in the (extensive) HANZAB article on the species.
