Last year the water was back up to the road (red star is on floating azolla), and it’s still holding up fairly well.  The origin of this ephemeral water body was that a natural floodplain depression was excavated for road or construction fill.  It was then deepened significantly in the 1980’s to improve bird habitat, back when that was a permissible objective.  With nutrient enrichment from cattle, azolla and carp, some interesting bird species might find the spot attractive if we have a prolonged dryish spell,

 

For the out-of-town subscriber, I’ve added a teal arrow to indicate the location of the national parliament.  I have another pic from the spot I’ll dig out and send on.
