Pied Butcherbirds have certainly spread in the ACT. The next Canberra Bird Notes will include an article about the species in our area - by yours truly.
A few interesting (well, I hope interesting) points from the article:
- The first sightings were in 1988 and from then until 2000 the species was reported from only two locations (Mulligans Flat and Scullin)
- From 2001 until 2012, the species was reported at a total of 6 ACT locations, and then from 25 locations between 2013 and 2017.
- Over the period 2018-2022, Pied Butcherbirds were reported from 67 ACT locations
- Breeding has been reported (and sometimes photographed) at 8 locations.  First breeding record 2016.

I’ve seen one several times at and near Lambrigg Lookout, and there was one at Lanyon last time COG visited a few years ago. Also seen in past years at the Paddys River TSR, so there’s certainly one or more resident in that general area. I saw one in Urambi Hills NR a few days ago, so they’re becoming more common.

Heard a Pied Butcherbird calling a couple of times this morning while I
was cycling along Tidbinbilla Rd between Tharwa and the Point Hut turnoff.
