Subject: [Canberrabirds] Possible white-necked heron
Hi there
My husband and I were just leaving Spence today (Saturday) to go to Yass and spotted a heron just after we turned right from Kingsford Smith drive into Kuringai Drive. It was picking through the newly mown grass. There was a culvert/vegetated
storm water drain nearby.
It had a white head and neck but the wings were dark. I thought it looked smaller than a white faced heron but my husband disagrees. Nevertheless, when we checked our field guide, we both agreed that it most resembled a white necked heron.
There was only one that we could see. We didn’t stop as we had traffic behind us.
