Making a return to Kellys after a couple of months, I found a few things of interest. First, at least 148 Silver Gulls in a line (more or less) on the nearest sewage pond over the road. Not quite so impressive, but again
in line formation, 10 Aust Grebes on Kellys proper. This morning, 4 Plumed Egrets, one near enough to a Great to allow a comparison snap. The Great adopted a one-bird line formation to show the distinctive long neck. Two Plumed lent themselves to the pictorial
effect known as Blueandyellow. Yesterday over the floodplain a female Peregrine and a Whistling Kite, close enough to be in the one snap. Then this morning some subsurface swirling in the dark waters in front of Bittern resolved itself into a rakali, which
soon headed for the cattails to avoid the attention of the coots. Soon after, another, making two rakalae. Like David McDonald I grope for a satisfactory plural.
