Darter in distress

This morning there was a mix of Cormorants, great, little pied and little
black, on the wall in the middle of the Coombs Pond, along with a dozen
Darters. Unfortunately one of the Darters had impaled some sort of red
material, or possibly a balloon, with its bill and was in considerable distress
as it now fought to remove it, wings flapping, tossing its head from side to
side, virtually jumping up and down on the wall. This happened for about 10
minutes before I moved away but the future was not looking bright for this
unfortunate bird.
