I have only just been alerted to this issue today. The draft Woden Strategic whatever consultation document proposes roads alongside Yarralumla Creek to assist in urban infill/developers' profits.

This would of course be an outrage, and infill in that neck of the woods completely inappropriate (especially as the Curtin Horse Paddocks are to be built over). The area isn't particularly birdy, but tarmacked over would be an awful lot less birdy and much less pleasant an area.

There is also the safety aspect to consider, the 1972 floods lapped around the current housing line along Yarralumla Creek (which is why the creek was canalised); floods in October 2022 didn't rise as high but did rip up several concrete slabs from the creek bed and pile them downstream in a very spectacular fashion. There is no reason to think that in a world of increasingly energetic weather events the floods of the 1972 magnitude wouldn't occur again, and more frequently.

And in the Woden Strategic document the very first principles talk about preserving 'blue-green corridors', though the document evidently makes an exception where Curtin is concerned.

Anyway, you have until tomorrow to comment on the Woden strategic nightmare vision.

Here is a link to the Curtin Residents' Association, which then links to where you can comment.
