Thanks Kim, there are other records for September as the following extract from my summary, taken mainly from COG’s Annual Bird Reports, of the rise and rise of the Eastern Koel in the October 2021
issue of CBN shows.
“It is also interesting to track how, as the number of records rose, the Koel began to arrive earlier and stay longer. The first October arrival was in GBS 2 wk in 2002-2003 (at 3 sites). This remained the earliest until Koels were recorded
from the GBS 2 wk Sep (which starts on 11 Sep) in 2007-2008. Only on 3 other occasions has the Koel been first recorded in September, at an unclear date in the General records in 2013-2014, on 18 Sep in 2017-2018 (see Table 1) and on 25 Sep in 2020-2021.”
My notes show that the first record for 2021-2022 was on 26 September, interestingly also from Narrabundah,
It does show Geoffrey’s and Anthony’s records for today (24 September) are early, especially as my draft October Gang-gang column shows that species seem to have been quite slow to arrive this season, compared with the past few years.

Anthony's sighting is indeed very early in the season. There is only one previous September observation in eBird. That one was on 26 Sept 2012 in Barton. It would be nice to see Anthony's record on eBird.

Many thanks Anthony, Geoffrey Dabb heard one in Narrabundah earlier today,
but yours are the first on eBird for this season. Has anyone else heard or
seen one recently? Regards Jack Holland

Two koels calling loudly at the baseball field in Narrabundah just now.
