It has been pointed out, very politely, that I somehow managed to misinterpret eBird data for Bar-shouldered Dove.  There are quite a few records south of Bateman’s Bay, to about Bermagui, with the furthest South - in 2017 - near Tathra.

No idea how I mucked that up: it is still a fairway from the State border.

In my report in the latest Canberra Bird Notes about assessing the number of rare birds I refer to a number of rare bird events as well as my central discussion of Spectacled Monarch sightings in Mallacoota.

In one case I refer to a Rose-crowned Fruit-Dove  apparently traversing Southern NSW and all of Victoria en route to Tasmania without being sighted. In the last few weeks a resident has posted some of his historic photographs to the Mallacoota Birds Facebook Group. One othese was clearly Rose-crowned Fruit-Dove, seen on the edge of Mallacoota in April 2021.

A second example of a rarity being trapped by serendipity is of Bar-shouldered Doves (there are 2 birds in the image) photographed in the Wallagaraugh River area earlier this month - the photographer couldn't remember nor work out exactly where he saw them. This is the first record on eBird or Birdata South of Bateman's Bay.
