About the finding of this species at LBG recently (mentioned last night and in the Gang-gang). I mention that this species is (a little surprisingly perhaps) given half a page (224-225) of text in the book: Aviculture in Australia – Mark Shephard, Reed, 1994. There are 4 pages about the various Button-quails. Says among other things that this species is “quite rare and expensive” but “easy to breed”…….. and more about its behaviour in captivity.

There are early mentions of the species in CBN. 1974, Vol 2(10) 13-15 “Red backed Quail in the Braidwood Area” (M.D. Bruce). Describes finding a pair in grassland on 30/11/1973. Also Vol 3(5):19. Though the latter is a passing taxonomic comment in a book review.

Just saying.

Philip
