Thanks for all the responses to the “ID Please”.
When I first saw these two birds, I was surprised that a Kestrel and a very different raptor were sitting in the same tree. This coloured my thinking I suppose.
It is subsequently good to have consensus that both birds were Falcons – one now obviously a very young bird with head turned away – although the tail is quite short in comparison with the adult tail. I will have to edit Ebird yet again.
I think I am nearly always wrong about raptors.
Cheers
Jean

Hi Jean,
Your subject is “ID please” but you don’t actually ash anything in the message, so I assume you are asking for an identification of the birds in the photo labelled
“kestrel”. These are Brown Falcons. I believe or hope the bird on the left has its head turned facing away.

A most enjoyable 3 hours
dawdling
on Bluetts Block this morning.
Lots of Spotted and Striated Pardalote, and Yellow-faced Honeyeaters. All feeding and dashing about rapidly.
Sorry about poor photograph. Birds appear to be quite young.
