Sorry folks, am resending as somehow my computer reverted back to the old address.  The total number of fledglings so far is now 24.  Jack Holland

The Koel fledgling I've just heard one begging and then seen fed by a pair of RWBs right next to my back door is my 5th for the season, despite Koel activity being very quiet in the second half of November when the eggs for all five must have been laid.  Earlier this morning I found my 4th in Chapman about 700 m away.  Despite hearing it there a week ago it was still very well hidden in a ti tree bush and even with the continuous begging I could not locate it until a RWB came in to feed it.

I am certain the one at my back door is not the same as the very mobile one with a long tail that was in my GBS site briefly early on New Year’s day.   While I haven’t heard/seen it since, this one is much smaller and moved through the bushes very clumsily.  I thought the 1/1 one might have been my first one found on Boxing Day around 250 m away, but I have since located both my Rivett fledglings very close to where I originally found them.   All have been fed by RWBs, I suspect their second brood for the season, noticeably there are very many fewer RWB fledglings around that the dozen or so that were around in October etc.

That now makes 23 fledglings for the season that I am aware of so far, at this stage very similar to last year.
