Warks Rd/Blundells Creek Rd

From my memory of Blundells Creek Rd the quagmire Sue describes is where an ephemeral creek flows across the road in wet times.  Looking at recent rainfall for Mt Ginini I 'd say it will be months rather than weeks before it dries out.

BTW: as far as my sightings in this area go, Cicadabird does not exist.

Archer, Lia, Sandra and I spent a very pleasant morning in the Brindabellas yesterday.  Our intention was to drive down Blundells Creek Rd to Warks Rd for a relaxed spot of birding.  However, the gate was locked at the top of Blundells Creek Road so we parked and set off on foot. About halfway down, we encountered the first fallen tree with others further on, and then an extremely "cut up" section of road where vehicles had obviously driven through when it was too wet to do so, resulting in very deep wheel ruts and a quagmire that was still extremely wet and muddy.  It will be some time before this dries out and it is likely that some road repair will be necessary before the road reopens.

Once we reached Warks Rd, in addition to the permanently closed gate to the left, the gate to the right was also closed, obviously to prevent people driving around the long way and trying to drive up Blundells Creek Rd.  Once past that gate, we walked a few hundred metres along the flat and soon found trees blocking the road in two places.  By that stage, we had walked 5km so decided to turn back.  If you fancy a 10km walk (up and back), there are plenty of good birds - Rose Robin, Rufous Fantail, Cicadabird, Satin Flycatcher etc.  It may be possible to drive down via Bulls Head and Bendora Road but I suspect there may be fallen trees blocking the roads from that direction.

The first COG field trip of 2022 is to Warks Rd, so I will check whether that is viable closer to the time as I imagine not everyone wants to walk 10km in January heat.  If the road is still closed, we will go elsewhere in the Brindabellas for  a more gentle walk.
