You are correct Danny.  The female will come to the in the day if required to fight off (eg) Pied Currawongs but usually hangs out within 50m of the nest.  Once fledged the whole family usually travels about together, perching in a photogenic row during the day.

Hi Philip,

It is my understanding male Tawny Frogmouths are on the nest during the day and the duties are shared at night. Happy to be corrected.

Having not been out since then, I just did a quick visit to Kambah Pool. The Tawny Frogmouth nest, presumed mother with two chicks are still going well. Looks like the chicks should leave the nest this week. The presumed father still in the same roost spot. The Grey Butcherbird nest with two chicks, I saw both parents feeding them. I thought they would be close to fledging. Only after about 5 minutes I noticed one other young one, with a very stubby tail, perched in an adjoining tree. One parent came and sat beside it.

A Tawny Frogmouth nest with chicks virtually at the Kambah Pool car park in (I think) the same tree as last year. And a Grey Butcherbird nest with chicks about 200 metres further along, at the Bullen range sign along the Kambah Pool track.
