Dear fellow Canberra birders,

Will you join me on Sunday evening at the back of Anzac Hall to protest its destruction?

The loss of the big trees to make way for the development is reason enough, but I’m also disgusted at the waste involved in demolishing such a young, for-purpose building.

In case the HTML content in the forwarded email below does not come through, the key details are:

The #HandsOffAnzacHall Candlelit Rally is being held this coming Sunday 20 June from 6pm – 7pm at the Australian War Memorial on the rear (Mt Ainslie) side of Anzac Hall.

All the best,

Suzannah

With the bulldozers getting ready to roll in following a rushed, rubber stamp approval from the National Capital Authority of ‘early works’ that include demolishing Anzac Hall, the Institute is supporting a grassroots community rally to save this award-winning architecture.

The #HandsOffAnzacHall Candlelit Rally is being held this coming Sunday 20 June from 6pm – 7pm at the Australian War Memorial on the rear (Mt Ainslie) side of Anzac Hall.

Public opposition to the redevelopment, including a record 601 public submissions, of which 598 were opposed, has been summarily dismissed.

But the fight isn’t over yet. We invite you to stand with us on Sunday and make your voice heard. If you can’t be there in person, you can show your support on social media.

The event is also supported by the ACT Greens, Medical Association for Prevention of War (Australia), the Heritage Guardians and Honest Historians together with former Directors and staff of the Memorial.
