Thanks Joan, while they do breed in autumn, none have come to my notice this year, though I haven’t looked too hard.  Dependent young in winter is less common though, with the BIRD INFO data on the COG website including only 5 records in June, and 1 in July.   Inspecting hollows is more common in June, with 21 records (and 32 in July).  Regards  Jack Holland
