Hi Susan,
White winged choughs are extremely inefficient feeders spending a lot of time each day sifting through leaves. So it does take a whole family to feed a chick.
That is why, as a rehabilitator, I find it very easy to release an orphan chough because any chough family will adopt it. The more birds the easier it is to raise a chick. Normally they would be stealing fledglings
or juveniles from other chough families to add to their family.
