Hello fellow Canberra birders,

On Friday I was walking near Dickson Wetland when I saw the sun glint off the wing of a galah grazing. This caught my attention so I took a closer look with binoculars. Two of the three galahs grazing there had wing tags.

Some googling brought up this story from 2012: https://the-riotact.com/this-is-an-ex-parrot/79249 , with detailed comments underneath from researcher Judith Scarl, who tagged galahs with tags like this from 2004-2006. The tags I saw certainly looked similar in size and layout to the tag shown in that story.

I discovered posts in this forum from about a decade ago regarding these wing tags, but nothing more recent. I’ve contacted Judith and emailed the ABBBS, but if anyone in this group knows more about tagged galahs, I’d love to find out more!

All the best,

Suzannah
