I think the Hughes/Garran flock of Superb Parrots may have left or are leaving
the area.

Yesterday at about 3 pm I was in the Hughes Garran woodland and observed about
10 Superbs fly from the direction of Federal Golf club over the other side of
Kitchener St. into a tree nearby. As I watched them another group arrived from
the same direction making the group in 2 adjacent trees at least 20. I hadn’t
seen so many gather together before. I have a short iPhone video mostly for the
noise they were making. When I walked over the road to the area adjacent to the
golf course where they are usually seen and heard I didn’t see or hear any. I
did however hear two further down near the thicket where the satin bowerbirds
hang out alongside the 11th fairway.

Today at 10 am there were none in Hughes Garran woodland and I saw only one
near the golf course - which flew by and headed north west.

This afternoon I went again to the Hughes Garran woodland area about 3. I
observed after a while a flock of about 6 or so arrive in a tree near
yesterday’s collection, but before I could get close enough for a photo they
all took off in a north westerly direction. I then went over to the area
adjacent to the golf course and saw and heard none. It is an area where I’ve
seen and heard them every day for weeks.

So I think they were gathering and leaving town.

I’ll check there again in the coming days to see if I am right.

Cheers

Peter
