Subject: [canberrabirds] Watched from 8.30am to11.30am. Underestimate of 3000 YFYE over my GBS
As previously
said small to larger groups of Yellow-faced Honeyeater were passing
earnestly
in a fairly narrow pathway over my house down towards the lower slopes of
Mount Taylor.
Flocks ranged from loose groups of 300 down to 20, or
to
individuals. I wonder to myself how the birds know to stagger their distance from subsequent groups? Innate behaviour,
flock panic, family or
territorial groups?
Watching
ceased at 11.30am when the wind became cold and the sunlight had shifted away, but numbers seemed to be dwindling at his point.
This year
there have not been the dense
and widespread flocks
along Tullaroop Street as in previous years, but thinner groups
have been passing over
for a
longer period of time.
Ebird report later today.
