I presume you checked the sewage works on the way past?  Pete Cranston had them there a couple of weeks ago: perhaps there is more grass in that area.

The Bungendore Trucking Yard Lane dam clean-out has been completed. High banks now cover about 3/4 of the dam's perimeter. The spots where they used to congregate are no more. In addition, the high bank obscures sight of much of the dam from the road.

A couple of dozen Grey Teal there yesterday, on the water.

The Plumed Whistling-Ducks seem to have left the Bungendore area (again). Considering that they graze '... at night on grassy margins of wetland or on short-grass plains ...' (Menkhorst et al./CSIRO bird guide), and that both of these habitats are few and far between, it may be a long time before they become resident again. Though of course we don't know for sure if they were ever resident, as none have been banded or leg flagged. Our assumption re resident status simply reflected the largely stable number of birds there over an extended period. For further information see Butterfield, M 2014, 'Plumed Whistling-Ducks in the COG Area of Interest', Canberra Bird Notes, vol. 39, no. 3, pp. 173-84.

I swung by last a Friday to have a look and an excavator was reshaping the dam wall and extending the excavation.  Needless to say, no ducks in sight.
