I have just been advised of the first Koel fledgling for the season, at least to my knowledge.  Typically it was found in Narrabundah, the scene of many such fledglings over the years.

As I mentioned in my December Gang-gang column, based on their early activity this season, from now is the time to watch out for them.

If you aren’t familiar with the begging call, if you put Koel fledgling begging call into your search engine, one of the first it should bring up is a YouTube video by Virginia Abernathy, formerly a Ph D student at the ANU, who shot this in 2014, very close to where the above fledgling has been found.

Well worth watching.
