I was observing a family of quite young magpies – female adult and two chicks.  The chicks were following her around, but what surprised me, because I haven’t seen that behaviour before, was that one chick was very aggressive towards its sibling, not allowing it to approach the mother.  The aggressor was being well fed.  The mother made no attempt, from my observations, to feed the other bird.
